Matt Groening is an American animator, cartoonist, writer, and producer. He is best known for his comic strip, Life in Hell, and his TV series The Simpsons, Futurama, and Disenchantment. Groening named the members of the Simpson family after some of his family members: his mother Margaret, his father Homer, and his two younger sisters, Lisa and Maggie. He substituted the name, Bart, for his own name. Over the course of his career, Matt Groening has won 13 Primetime Emmy Awards and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

History:

The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company, is an American animated sitcom that depicts a satirical representation of American life. This show was first debuted on April 19, 1987 as 60-second shorts for The Tracey Ullman Show. Due to the popularity of these shorts, The Simpsons was created into a series of 30-minute episodes. This series debuted on December 17, 1989 with a Christmas episode. Since its debut, The Simpsons has aired over 700 episodes in 32 seasons, making it the longest-running American sitcom. In 2007, The Simpsons Movie was released and The Simpsons Movie 2 is currently in the works. This past March, it was announced that the series was renewed for at least two more seasons. So far, this show has won 34 Primetime Emmy Awards, 34 Annie Awards, and 2 Peabody Awards.
