My name is William Petherick, a student at temple university.
I am a 3rd year CST student looking to achieve a degree with an additional certificate in cybersecurity. From there I plan to take on a career as a cybersecurity expert at a firm somewhere. I was mainly inspired to want to help improve the security of other people when I learned that a very common cause of account theft was linked to poor password security.
The most common password frequently used to protect accounts is 'password12345' or some other weak variation. This makes a brute force attack, where a computer rapidly inputs dozens of common passwords to gain access to an account very effective. The more common the password, the less time it takes a machine to crack.
Test the strength of your password here!If stuff as simple as this is throwing people off, I can't imagine what any cyberattacks more complex could do. In the future, I want to work towards creating a tool or program that can help teach people how to more effectively protect themselves against various kinds of cyber threats.
